Un film sur la Campagne Justice pour Ernest Manirumva
Une initiative de Protection International
On April 9th 2009 Ernest Manirumva, number two of OLUCOME, the main association fighting against corruption in Burundi, was assassinated, leaving Burundian civil society shocked and the international community concerned to the utmost.
The FORSC, Forum for the reinforcement of civil society, immediately summoned its 146 member associations to launch the campaign “Justice for Ernest Manirumva”.
With their courage and tenacity, human rights defenders like Pacifique Nininahazwe, managing director of FORSC, maintain the case of Pacifique Nininahazwe on the national and international agenda. At the same time defenders develop their own mechanisms for security and protection.
After the 2010 elections consolidated CNDD-FDD control over most Burundian institutions, the European Union, in close collaboration with Burundian defenders, is committed to defining a local protection strategy, as an application of the EU Guidelines on human rights defenders, a priority for the EU foreign policy since 2004.
human rights defenders in Burundi are fortunate enough to have a diplomacy concerned with the human rights issue, a diplomacy that takes threats made to defenders very seriously and acts accordingly.
This documentary is dedicated to the memory of Ernest Manirumva and to human rights defenders in Central Africa, in hope that it will encourage the adoption of protection policies in the whole region, aimed at putting an end to assassinations, threats and harassment of those who carry the voice of the voiceless…
